Many times, Christians (not saying we as a class), but most Christians love to over glorify worship more than it should be. They like to receive their theology from Christian music instead of the word of God itself. So I love to read the Bible and ask myself, "What is True Worship?" Well, a definition of worship is giving God the glory and obedience he deserves. In the book of Isaiah, Isaiah warns the people of hypocritical actions, "Yet they act so pious! They come to the temple every day and seem delighted to learn all about me. They act like a righteous nation that would never abandon the laws if its God" (Isaiah 58:2). He wanted them to know that true worship was more than a religious ritual, going to the temple everyday, and listening to scripture readings. It involved authenticity and an honest confession of wrongdoing. Where we worship is not as important to God as how we worship. A church may be beautiful, but if its people don't sincerely follow God, it decays from within. More often than not, I get caught up in my own life and try to fix causes and scenarios on my own. Daily things I feel like as if I can take head on by myself, yet I end up failing. Whether I'm in my room, class, or at church on Sunday and Wednesday, I seem to struggle to constantly allow God to help me tear down those barriers in my life. When we worship, we are reminded that he is God, and we are not. Let's be vulnerable. When you/we worship, do you mean the words you say?
I commented on Jamie and Madalyn's post.
As an avid musician, I feel this. I remember times where certain music artists who worship God through their art would be slandered for this detail or that choice or wording in their songs, and it would absolutely drive me crazy in frustration to see it. Content and context over location is what I picture worship would prioritize if more people would dive deep into the scripture and reach their own conclusion about the legitimacy of the worship.
ReplyDeleteHey man, I definitely agree with your post. Some people forget that worship doesn't even have to be music. I believe we are called everyday to make our lives an act of worship that point to the glory of God. Throughout everything we do, there is a way to glorify God and bring honor to him with every action.
